Art/Not Art

The story goes like this.

Kidult tagged Mark Jacobs’ NYC storefront with his not-patented fire extinguisher spray can, splashing “ART” over the facade. Jacobs took this in stride, printing a tee of the vandalized storefront with “Art by Art Jacobs”.

The kicker here of course was the accompanying $689 price tag. Of course, Kidult took great exception to this appropriation and commercialization of his vandalization and printed 50 pink shirts with a photo of him tagging the store and the tagline “Not art by Kidult”, selling them at $6.89 Euro each.

These shirts (see below) went on sale about 10 minutes ago. All 50 and another 50 white ones sold out in about 15 seconds. Sadly, I wasn’t able to score one despite the constant site refreshing at 2:59p EST. So instead of telling the story on my chest, I’m telling it here.

Enjoy!
