INDIAN ELECTRONICA CHILL MIX

by Lee

I've been working so much until this weekend I hadn't touched the mixer since PIBday. A sad state of affairs indeed. Back at it now, I'm going to see if I can kick out a variety of jams before the new year.

I've also compiled my best of 2009 tracks which are being shared daily at blip.fm. But now it's time for a mix.

Indian Electronica Chill Mix front cover.

When I played the Indian Electronica festival in the summer it was a more uptempo evening with, for my set, a focus on minimal vibes. At the time, however, I started gathering some more downtempo Indian vibes. So, without further ado, here's the Indian Electronica Chill Mix. Enjoy!

INDIAN ELECTRONICA FESTIVAL LIVE MIX.

by Lee

Indian Electronica Festival 090904 Live Mix Cover Art

Qasim was super generous to invite a white boy to the party this past Friday. I somehow managed to kill 2.5 hours of minimal into a 55 minute set. I was stressing at the 30 minute mark as I realized I was chomping through all the minimal I had that was anywhere close to Indian. Seems to have worked out in the end as I made it through 55 minutes of an hour long set.

This is the unedited live mix from the evening so there's a little bit of unintentional madness occurring but that's the way it goes. Maybe I'll do a cleaner studio mix in the future but for now this is the goods. Enjoy!

From the documentary, Playing For Change: Peace Through Music, musicians from around the world are mashed up into a stirring rendition of Ben E King's Stand By Me. Gorgeous stuff.

AMADOU AND MARIAM AT THE PHOENIX JUNE 4

Posted by Lee

Amadou & Mariam

One of the more interesting "world music" albums (that genre is such a convoluted mess, but I digress) that came out in 2008 was from Amadou and Mariam. I didn't fall in love with the album as a whole, but there a few select tracks that kick my ass, not the least of which is the Damon Albarn produced Sabali which kicks off the album.

Here's a preview for your enjoyment: Amadou and Mariam - Sabali

They're playing at the Phoenix Thursday, June 4, if you'd like to check them out live. No idea what to expect but the Facebook invite says the following:

Definitely one of the best African groups out there and they're coming to Toronto! I saw them in Edmonton last summer and they are amazing! If you like music you will enjoy yourself - even if you doubt you'd be into African music. Great band. Great venue. Go buy yourself a ticket.
